Auditions

In-person auditions are currently booking in June 2023, contact us for more details.

Our goal is to make the audition process as fun and easy as possible. If there is any additional supports your auditionee may require, please let us know. We are excited to individualize every audition experience.

Auditions are held every year and are open to students in grade 2 to 12. For auditions, we hope that you can prepare a song and a spoken word piece. There will also be a short dance routine taught at the audition. Our standard auditions are held at the regular rehearsal space, The Church of St. Stephen and St. Bede – 99 Turner Avenue. This season we can offer either in-person or online auditions depending on the comfort level of families auditioning.

If you’re interested in auditioning for JMTC, please contact us to schedule an audition.

Why Hold Auditions?

Auditions are held so that the director has a chance to get to know the student. JMTC is a lot of fun, but it is also a lot of work. It is really important that the student is prepared to put in the time that is needed. It is also a perfect time to ask any questions that you may have about the program.

What Should I Expect in the Audition?

When auditioning please wear comfortable clothes that you can move in. If you have a resume and photo, please bring a copy for the director to keep. Remember to relax and have fun!

The audition is broken into four parts:

A Mini-Interview

This gives the director a chance to get to know the potential student and it gives the student an opportunity to ask any questions that they may have about the program.

Sing Your Song

Please prepare a memorized song to be sung either a cappella (without music) or with a recorded background track on CD or brought in on your own device (cell phone, Ipad, Bluetooth speaker, etc). There will be no accompanist. A CD player/stereo with connecting cables will be provided for your use if needed.

Recite Your Monologue

Please prepare a 1 to 2 minute monologue or spoken word piece to be performed from memory. This can be something you find in a book or online from a show, a movie, or even a poem that you like.

A Small Dance Combo

This will be taught in the audition.

*If you require assistance in finding a song or a monologue, please let me know. I have a bunch of pieces I can suggest to you.
